Malte has a doctorate in social geography and is an assistant professor at the Institute for Geography at the University of Osnabrück. His research focuses on development and migration,
as well as tourism and networks with a regional focus on South Africa and Brazil. He also heads up
the "Slumming. Städtischer Armutstourismus im Globalen Süden" (Slumming. Urban Poverty Tourism
in the Global South) research project.
