  • Home office with a view… and what a view!

Since you're not allowed to commute to the office anyway, why not work at the pool, or even better, from a Ferris wheel cabin? Japan's Yomiuriland offers infection-proof office booths for remote workers in the amusement park - portable WIFI and charging ports included.

The home office has become the new normal for a large part of the workforce, as containing the coronavirus has led many of us to resort to working from home. And while the pandemic continues, some of us are spending a bunch of really dull weeks in front of our computer screens.

But there are containment-compliant alternatives to actually staying at home - such as the option proposed by Tokyo's Yomiuri park. As visitors' numbers dropped, the theme park started offering "Amusement Workation" passes in October 2020. For around 15 Euros on weekdays - not much more than the price of a day pass at many co-working offices as well - the pass allows you to get work done while enjoying the thrill of the park's roller coaster or a wake-up scare in the haunted house during your coffee break (but be aware: visitors are discouraged from screaming during the ride to prevent Covid-19 infections).

The park staff has installed well-equipped poolside working booths all set up with a desk, chairs, sun lounges and, of course, a WIFI connection and charging ports. The workstation pass includes entry to the park, workspace rental and reduced admission prices for the nearby golf course and spa. Even more exciting though, for a few extra bucks, you can also book a one-hour-ride on the Ferris wheel and take along a pocket WIFI router for a stable internet connection. A workspace made to boost creativity!

And if a one-day excursion to an amusement park isn't enough to raise your spirits - some Caribbean islands are handing out extended visas and hotels are offering special "workcation" packages for teleworkers. For an extra portion of relaxation and vitamin D as you get the job done.
