Ammar Abo Bakr

Ammar Abo Bakr is a mural artist from Egypt. His works have cased walls in Cairo, Luxor, Alexandria, Beirut, Frankfurt, Berlin, Amsterdam and Brussels. They are journaling the Egyptian Revolution as well as themes about Coptic and Islamic culture, folk art and Egyptian history. Ammar is best known for his mural on Mohammed Mahmoud Street leading to Cairo’s Tahrir Square that honors the Revolution's martyrs. Together with other artists, he launched the “No Walls” graffiti campaign in March 2012 where he used trompe l’oeil to artistically transform concrete barriers erected by Egypt’s Interior Ministry. The work’s perfect symbiosis with its environment fools the passerby into believing there’s actually no barricade at all.
